“You are have been asked to examine a 78 year old women with a 3 month history of back pain. The pain is localised to the mid thoracic region and is dull. The pain started immediately after lifting a heavy suitcase. Her symptoms have not got worse but they are not improving either. She did not take HRT and has been post menopausal for 20 years. There is no other family history and she reports no other symptoms. She has a history of smoking. Recently she had a friend who passed away from cancer and one of her symptoms was back pain”
