“You have been asked to assess a woman’s eye and arm movements. You find weakness of the extraocular muscles causing a complex ophthalmoplegia. There is weakness in the proximal upper limb muscles but no muscle wasting.  Tendon reflexes are normal. She reports the weakness gets worse on sustained activity. While speaking to her you notice that she has some dysarthria.”
